Week 12

With the craziness of the last few weeks of the semester, I somehow lost a week. It became apparent when my 8-year-old son and I went to the Stake Center for this month’s Stake baptisms and nobody was there. I feel bad for my son because he was going to watch his friend be baptized. That happened last week. We will have to write him a note or something. Aside from today’s disappointments, this week went rather well. It has been quiet. I tried to work on my homework a little bit every day so I wasn’t scrambling in the end. I think I learned a lot while doing my homework. I really liked finding a business that I would like to buy (it was for one of our discussion boards). I found Hot Licks Ice Cream in Fairbanks, Alaska. It seems like a good plan. I would only have to really run it for 4-5 months out of the year and still earn a profit. While I don’t think I will be buying any businesses for some time, it was a fun activity. We learned about family businesses and succession plans. If I went into business and wanted to hand down my business to one of my kids, I would have a clear succession plan in place. I don’t want to have to deal with hurt feelings or anything.


I made 2 batches of bath bombs this week in hopes to sell them off before today (Saturday)! While I did sell some, it didn’t sell them all. I was hoping that more of my local friends would show an interest and buy some, but that wasn’t so. I did have another family member that wants some so I will be sending those out today. Then I guess I will start working on my project for next week. I really haven’t done that bad, and I’m proud of my successes. Who knows, maybe somebody will buy some later today. Or early next week.

Week 6

This week has been BUSY! Monday was a holiday and I don’t think I got anything done. Tuesday was busy as well because the Relief Society Presidency (that I am a part of) took on the task of deep cleaning the Stake Center’s kitchen. That seemed to take forever because not many women showed up beside the presidency. It was a good time though! My two older boys that are/will be in JROTC in High School also had a camp to go to this week as well. It is so hard to get homework done when I have my kids at home for summer break. I ordered all my supplies from Amazon for my bath bomb business. I’m still waiting for them to come in the mail, but I am anxiously waiting for them. In the meantime, I have been going through my essential oils and trying to come up with different scent combinations. I also worked on my elevator pitch this week. Week 11

This week has been a good (and BUSY) week! The 4 th of July happened and I took a day off from school work (except to post on discussion boards) and got to spend some time with my family and friends. It has been HOT in Alaska. The long hours of daylight (and 80-degree temps) and no A/C has been nice, but also kind of rough. I say rough because you can’t actually cool down when its 85 degrees in your house. Either way, I enjoyed learning about Steve Jobs this week. I can really get behind his philosophies. I loved that he said to find your passion. I think I am still working on that. I haven’t held a job in so long and have been in school the last 4 years. I do have some interests, but I don’t know if they would be called a passion. I have some soul searching to do. We also learned a little about franchising. Week 2 of the New Semester

As part of my B283 Small Business Creation class, we need to start and maintain an Entrepreneur Blog for the semester. I think it's a great idea. This way we can share what we have learned, what did and didn't work, and what we hope to accomplish for the coming week. This class has given me anxiety and sometimes I feel that I am not equipped with enough know-how to fulfill the requirements. I love learning, but for some reason this week it felt like a chore. I think the coming weeks will be different and not so much will be expected of me from my calling in church, and the end of year programs that my kids have are almost done with. This week we were supposed to find or come up with forty business ideas. the first twenty were supposed to be for our $100 business challenge, and the rest were to be for our "big idea."
